Philharmonics - Agnes Obel

I am reviewing the album Philharmonics by Agnes Obel which is an excellent album. Agnes is Danish & originally from Copenhagen although nowadays she lives in Berlin. Both her parents were quite musical & she learnt to play the piano at an early age. Her piano teacher encouraged her to play music she liked. She also went to a school were she did lots of things like pottery but left at 17. She was in a group but didn't like not having freedom to play what she liked. This album was released in 2010 & was particularly successful in Germany, Belgium & Denmark. She has since done a 2nd album called Aventine. This album Philharmonics has quite a haunting cover where there is a silhouette of Agnes which is a bit like something from a Bergman or Hitchcock film. She also did really well at the Danish Music Awards & has performed at the itunes festival in London & Paris. She is definitely a rising star. Surprisingly I got this album at a car boot sale and had never heard of her prior to playing it but the album is really good & the music is a kind of relaxing folk music with her on piano. Finally I would recommend the wikipedia page on her which is very interesting and which I looked at.
